
Getting Your Sidel SBO 4/6 Back Up to Speed
If you’re running a Sidel SBO 4/6, you know the drill. Your lamps are the heart of the operation. If they’re off, your bottles are off. That’s why we built our short-wave IR lamps to be a simple, “plug-and-play” swap. The goal here is simple: get the heat deep into the PET preform without scorching the outside. No burnt plastic, no thin spots. Just a perfect blow every time. The Nitty-Gritty on Power Wall thickness is everything. To get it right, you need a very specific balance of wattage and voltage. We use high-voltage quartz glass because these lamps take a beating with constant heating and cooling. Plus, we matched the electrical resistance of the original Sidel elements. Why? Because nobody wants to deal with a tripped circuit breaker or voltage drops in the middle of a shift. It just works. No More Fighting with Sockets We’ve all been there—it’s midnight, the machine is down, and you’re fighting a connector that won’t seat. We hate that. That’s why we build our R7s and Sk15 connectors to tight tolerances. They slide right in. We also use heavy-wall quartz tubing so the filament doesn’t sag when things get hot, and a halogen gas fill to keep the tungsten from evaporating. It basically means your lamps last longer, even when you’re pushing them to the limit. Making it Fit You shouldn’t have to mess with your reflectors or modify your oven. We standardized the length and pin spacing to fit about 95% of the blow molding setups out there. You just swap them in and get back to work. One quick tip, though: high-density lamps put a lot of stress on your ventilation. If you crank up the wattage to speed up your cycles, make sure your cooling blowers are actually clean.
