
Stop Fighting Your SIPA Blow Molder’s Heat
If you’ve spent any time running a SIPA rotary machine, you know the frustration of uneven wall thickness or bottles that just look… off. Usually, it comes down to thermal variance. Here is the real culprit: generic replacement lamps. Most of them don’t actually match the original OEM power curve. They’re “close enough,” but in this business, close enough usually means distorted bottles and a lot of wasted plastic. We build our Sidel/SIPA replacement lamps to match the power 100%. No guessing. No “close enough.” Why a few percentages matter It sounds like a small detail, but if your lamp is off by even 5%, the infrared energy hitting that PET preform changes. When the power density is all over the place, you end up with cold spots or overheating. Then you’re stuck in that annoying cycle of slowing down the machine or cranking up the cycle time just to keep things stable. It’s a headache. By keeping the wattage identical across every single lamp in the bank, the heat profile stays flat. Everything just works the way it should. The nitty-gritty on the build We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the shock of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. We also obsess over the connectors—usually R7s or SK15. Why? Because if a lamp doesn’t seat perfectly in the socket, you get arcing. And once you have arcing, that lamp is going to burn out way faster than it should. Plus, we use specific coatings to tune the wavelength. This makes sure the heat actually penetrates the PET instead of just warming up the oven walls. A quick reality check for the shop floor These lamps are designed to push a lot of heat to keep your line moving fast. But there’s a catch. If you’re running these tubes at their max rated wattage, your cooling blowers are working overtime. If your ventilation is clogged with dust or grime, these lamps will burn out—doesn’t matter who made them. Do yourself a favor: keep your reflectors sparkling clean and your cooling fans clear. That’s the only way you’re going to get the full lifespan out of the quartz.
