
Getting Your Sidel Heating Lamps to Actually Play Nice Together
If you’ve spent any time around Sidel blow molding machines, you know the headache of keeping heat consistent. It’s not as simple as just grabbing a bulb with the right wattage and calling it a day. We wanted to fix that. So, we built our replacement lamps to be true “drop-ins.” Whether you’re running an old-school SBO or the newer Matrix series, these just work. The fit has to be perfect. Here’s the thing: if a lamp is even a tiny bit off in length or diameter, it doesn’t sit right in the oven reflectors. That puts stress on the quartz glass, and that’s how you get breaks. We spec ours to match the OEM tubes exactly. Plus, we use standard R7s or SK15 connectors. You just plug them in. No hacking into the wiring harness, no “making it fit,” no stress. Then there’s the power. If you shove a high-wattage tube into a zone that can’t handle the load, you’re going to fry your contactors. We’ve tuned our electrical curves to match the OEM specs so you don’t have to worry about blowing something out. It’s all about the heat. We use shortwave infrared technology because it hits the PET preform fast. To handle the constant heating and cooling without cracking, we use high-purity quartz. Some of our lamps even have special coatings. These shift the heat away from the neck and focus it right where it belongs—on the body of the preform. Putting them to work. The best part? You don’t have to shut down the whole line for a massive reconfiguration. You swap the lamps, and you’re back in business. It’s a clean, non-destructive process. One quick tip, though. High-density infrared lamps put out a lot of ambient heat. If you’re upgrading an older SBO unit with these higher-output tubes,**double-check your oven ventilation.**If the air isn’t moving, the lamps will burn out early and your preforms will heat unevenly. Keep it cool, and they’ll last.
