
How We Fixed the Foggy Mirror Problem
We’ve all been there. You step out of a hot shower, reach for the mirror to shave or do your makeup, and you’re staring at a wall of white fog. It’s annoying. Most people try to fix this with heaters that warm up the air in the room, but that takes forever. We decided to do something different. We use shortwave infrared (IR) technology. Instead of bothering with the air, these elements hit the glass directly. It means your mirror goes from foggy to crystal clear in a few seconds. The secret is in the heat. To get that instant “luxury hotel” feel, we use quartz tubes filled with halogen gas. This lets the filament get incredibly hot without just burning itself out. All that heat moves straight into the glass. Once the surface is warm enough, the water vapor just can’t settle into those annoying little droplets. We stick with high-purity quartz because it can handle the “thermal shock.” You know, that constant jumping from cold to hot and back again. Space is always an issue behind a mirror, too. We use tiny, compact connectors so everything fits snugly behind the silvering. No weird bulges in your frame. But there’s a catch. Because this IR heat is so powerful, we have to be careful with the wattage. If you go overboard, you could actually crack the glass or ruin the mirror’s reflection. It’s all about finding that sweet spot. Adding it to your setup If you’re replacing those old-school heating pads, you’ll notice the difference immediately. Pads take minutes to wake up. These? They’re almost instant. Just a heads-up for the electrical side of things: these elements create a bit of a current surge when they first kick in. Make sure your relays can handle the wattage, especially since bathrooms are damp. You don’t want your hardware quitting on you halfway through a Tuesday morning.
