
Getting Your PET Blowing Lamps Right (Without the Headache)
If you’ve spent any time around a PET blowing machine, you know the drill. You rely on those shortwave infrared lamps to get your preforms hot enough to stretch. But when a lamp goes out, the last thing you want is a compatibility nightmare. We’ve spent a lot of time making sure our replacement lamps just work. We focus on the three things that actually matter: the power, the fit, and the heat. Let’s talk power. Industrial ovens are demanding. Whether you’re running 230V or 400V, the wattage has to be spot on. If it’s off, you’re either staring at a blown fuse or dealing with plastic that isn’t heating up. We use 2500W tubes to keep your cycle times fast. One quick tip: keep an eye on your cooling fans. If the oven gets too stifling, your filaments are going to burn out way faster than they should. The “Drop-In” Fit Nobody wants to rewire a socket in the middle of a shift. That’s why we stick to the basics—standard R7s or SK15 connectors. You just pop the old one out and slide the new one in. No modifications, no fuss. We also use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because these things take a massive amount of thermal shock. Plus, the halogen cycle keeps the tungsten from gunking up the glass, so the light stays clear and strong for thousands of hours. Heating, not scorching There’s a fine line between a perfectly heated preform and a scorched piece of plastic. PET is picky. It needs specific wavelengths to heat up from the inside out without burning the surface. Our lamps hit those exact shortwave frequencies. Look, these lamps live in a brutal environment.
