
Getting Your IR Lamps Right for Sidel SBO and Matrix Machines
If you’ve ever dealt with preform wall thinning, you know the headache. It all comes down to heat distribution. If it’s not precise, you’re wasting plastic and time. That’s why we build our infrared lamps to fit Sidel machines perfectly—whether you’re running the old-school SBO lines or the newer Matrix series. It’s about more than just the length. When we say “drop-in replacement,” we actually mean it. There’s nothing worse than a lamp that almost fits, or one that forces you to wrestle with the mounting brackets for twenty minutes during a changeover. We keep the tube diameters and end-caps tight to the original specs so they just slide in. But the real magic is in the electricity. We map out the exact wattage and voltage of the OEM specs. Why? Because if you’re swapping lamps in a Matrix system and the electrical load doesn’t match your ballast, things go south fast. You’ll either see uneven heating zones or, worse, the lamps will just burn out way too early. The tech side of things We use high-purity quartz glass because these lamps take a beating with rapid heating and cooling. To make them more efficient, we apply specific coatings that help the PET absorb the heat better. Less wasted energy, better bottles. And don’t worry about the wiring. We use the standard R7s or Sk15 interfaces Sidel uses. You can just plug them into your existing harnesses. No adapters, no splicing, no mess. A quick heads-up on maintenance High-intensity shortwave lamps are great for high-speed production, but they’re demanding. All that concentrated energy puts a lot of stress on your reflectors. Here’s the thing: you’ve got to keep those reflectors clean. If dust or carbon builds up, you’ll get hot spots on the lamp surface. That leads to localized stress, and eventually, the tube will snap. We build these things to survive a gritty factory floor, but they only work if your cooling airflow is set up right for the wattage. Keep them cool, keep them clean, and they’ll take care of you.
