If you’ve spent any time on a PET blow molding floor, you know the nightmare of uneven heating. One minute everything is fine, and the next, you’re staring at bottles with wonky wall thickness or, worse, a pile of failures. A lot of the time, this happens because of a “quick fix.” You swap out a worn-out lamp for a generic one that looks right, but the wattage is slightly off. Suddenly, you’ve got cold spots in your oven. It’s frustrating. That’s why we build our lamps to be exact clones of the originals. No guessing. No “close enough.” Just a drop-in replacement that hits the same power density as the OEM gear. The math behind the heat Here’s the thing: mixing lamps with different resistance values is a recipe for disaster. Even a tiny 5% difference in voltage or wattage shifts how the infrared heat hits the preform. When that happens, your PID controllers start working overtime. They “hunt” for the right temperature, swinging back and forth, which just makes your preform temps unstable. We match the specs exactly so your controllers can just… relax. Everything stays steady. It’s all in the fit We use high-purity quartz because it can take the punch of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. But the glass is only half the story. The connectors (R7s or Sk15) have to be tight. If there’s a loose fit at the terminal, you get arcing. That’s how you burn out the ends of a lamp way before its time. Plus, the lamp has to sit perfectly centered in the reflector. If it sags or sits crooked, you’re wasting energy and losing that precious reflection. It’s a small detail, but it’s the difference between a smooth run and a headache. A quick reality check for the shop floor High-density infrared lamps put out a massive amount of heat. That’s great for your cycle times, but it puts a lot of pressure on your cooling fans. Keep an eye on your ventilation. If dust builds up and blocks the airflow, your lamp housing is going to overheat. And once that happens, it doesn’t matter how high the quality of the quartz is—the lamp is going to die early. Keep it clean, keep the power matched, and your Blomax will behave exactly the way it should.
