Ever feel like you’re locked into one supplier just because your blow molding machine has “special” lamp specs? It’s a common headache. Most lines are designed to keep you buying from one place, but we thought that was nonsense. We built our infrared heating lamps to be the ultimate “plug-and-play” solution. They fit into about 95% of the equipment out there—including Sidel systems—without you having to tweak a single thing.
Getting the Heat Right
The trick to heating a preform without scorching the plastic is all about the balance of voltage and wattage. We use 400V high-output tubes. Why? Because they pack a ton of power into a small space. You get that intense, shortwave IR radiation that makes high-speed cycles actually work. **One quick heads-up, though.**These high-wattage tubes work hard, which means your oven’s cooling fans have to work hard too. If your vents are clogged with dust, your lamps are going to burn out faster. Keep them clean, and they’ll last.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
We didn’t cut corners on the materials. We use heavy-wall quartz glass filled with halogen gas. This stops the filament from evaporating too quickly, so you aren’t swapping lamps every five minutes. We also coated the reflectors to make sure the heat goes exactly where it needs to: forward. As for the plugs, we stick with R7s and Sk15 connectors. They’re the industry standard for a reason. They fit tight, they don’t wiggle, and you won’t deal with any annoying electrical arcing when you wire them up.
Real-World Use
Blow molding ovens are brutal environments. Constant heat, constant cooling, constant stress. We built these lamps to take that beating. Since we mirrored the exact size and electrical load of the OEM Sidel lamps, the swap is incredibly simple. When it’s time for scheduled maintenance, you just pull the old one out and pop the new one in. No rewiring, no bending brackets, no stress. Just a straightforward hardware swap and you’re back in business.
