
Making IR Lamps That Actually Fit Your PET Blow-Molding Line
If you’re running Sidel machines or similar blow-molding gear, you know the drill. You need those shortwave infrared lamps to hit the PET preforms just right to get them soft enough to blow. We got tired of the “will it actually fit?” guessing game. So, we built our IR lamps to be true drop-in replacements. We standardized the physical size and the electrical bits so they work with about 95% of the equipment out there. No hacks, no modifications. Just a fit that works. Let’s talk power. To get that plastic to the right temperature in a matter of seconds, you need a serious punch of heat. Depending on your oven’s transformer, these usually run at 230V or 400V. We use high-wattage halogen filaments because they put the heat exactly where it belongs—on the preform wall—instead of wasting energy heating up your machine frame. But a quick heads-up: if you’re running a 2500W tube, your cooling fans have to be spotless. If the airflow is choked, the housing overheats, and you’ll burn through your filaments way faster than you should. Built for the heat Rapid cycling is brutal on glass. That’s why we use heavy-wall quartz. It handles the thermal shock without cracking. We stuck with R7s or SK15 connectors because they’re the gold standard. Why? Because when a lamp burns out in the middle of a shift, you don’t want to spend an hour rewiring the oven. You want to swap it out in minutes and get moving again. Most of the time, we keep the quartz clear for maximum heat transmission. But if you’re working with a weird PET resin grade, we’ve got coated versions that shift the spectrum to match. Real-world performance Here’s the thing: replacing a Sidel lamp isn’t just about getting the length right. It’s about the fit. Our lamps match the OEM specs down to the millimeter. They slide into the reflectors and stay put. No rattling, no shifting, and most importantly,no hot spotson your bottles. We keep these in stock because we’ve been there.
