If you’ve spent any time on the floor with a KHS machine, you know the headache of uneven heating. One minute you’re fine, the next you’ve got weird pearlescence or thin walls in your PET bottles. It usually happens because the original IR lamps start to fade. When that happens, the thermal field shifts. Most operators do the same thing: they crank up the power to compensate. But that’s a risky game. You end up burning the preforms because you’re pushing too much heat into the wrong spots. That’s why we built our 2500W IR radiators. We wanted to close those gaps.
Why 2500W actually matters
It’s not just about throwing more power at the problem. It’s about heat flux. To get a preform to that sweet spot—the glass transition temperature—without melting the neck, you need energy that’s concentrated and precise. With 2500W, you’re pushing more BTUs into the plastic in a much tighter window. The result? Faster cycles. But there is a catch. More power means more heat in the oven. Getting the heat where it belongs
We spent a lot of time on the filament geometry and the coating. We didn’t want “hot” lamps; we wanted even lamps. A lot of the generic tubes you find online have those annoying cold spots at the ends. We used a refined quartz blend to keep the shortwave emission stable. Now, the heat hits the PET consistently from the center all the way to the edges. And don’t worry about the install. These are drop-in replacements. We made sure they fit the exact footprint of Sidel and KHS housings. No rewiring your racks. No messing with the reflectors. Just swap and go.
A few tips for the shop floor
Wait until your next scheduled teardown to swap these out. Before you wire them up,**check your connectors for oxidation.**This is huge. A loose or dirty connection at 2500W will arc and fry your socket in a matter of days. Once they’re in, you’ll notice the thermal profile stays steady. You can stop babysitting the temperature settings every time the production run shifts. It just works.
